Remarque
Through Our Next Play, Janice King provides education for athletes, coaches, parents, officials, clubs, and organizations focused specifically on behavior during competition and around matches. This is an important distinction from traditional Safe Sport education, which often takes the form of online modules completed before someone begins coaching or participating. Janice's work focuses on what happens when emotions are high, a call doesn't go your way, a mistake is made, or conflict occurs, and how we respond in those moments.
One area Janice speaks about is the role adults play in developing resilient young athletes. When parents or spectators immediately react by yelling at officials or coaches whenever something doesn't go their child's way, we can unintentionally take away an opportunity for young people to learn how to process adversity, regulate their emotions, and move forward.
Learning to accept what has happened, respond appropriately, and refocus on what comes next is an important skill that extends well beyond basketball.
Put simply, Janice helps everyone involved in the game from athletes, coaches, officials, parents, and spectators learn how to move on to the "Next Play."
